Environmental Health

The Environmental Health Specialist is currently out of the office until December 26, 2014. When he returns on December 26, 2014, he will be available for questions and inspections.


Mission:  To protect, promote, and enhance the health and well-being of the public and the environment through the application of scientific principles, education, and environmental health laws and regulations.

Environmental Health Specialists perform food, lodging, day care and institutional sanitation inspections, on-site soil evaluations and inspections of septic systems, bacteriological sampling, animal bite investigations, public swimming pool sanitation inspections and childhood lead poisoning investigations. Environmental Health Specialists also administer the solid waste and recycling program, monitor drinking water systems for compliance and license food facilities.

Jim Solvedt, RS, is the Environmental Health Supervisor and an Oregon Registered Professional Sanitarian.

The Sanitarian is available at the Community Development Department counter and by phone between the regularly scheduled hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., Monday – Friday. Outside of these hours, the Sanitarian may be out of the office due to field work and offsite inspections. If you need to reach the Sanitarian outside of the regularly scheduled office hours, please call ahead to ensure he will be available.
