Marriage Licenses

Applicants, please complete the online marriage application before arriving at the Clerk's Office for issuance. Please feel free to contact our office at 503-623-9217 with any questions.

To obtain a marriage license, each applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years of age (or 17 years old with a parent or legal guardian's consent). Each couple must appear in person.

There is a three (3) day waiting period before a license may be used, and it is valid for sixty (60) days after the effective date. THE LICENSE IS VALID ONLY IN THE STATE OF OREGON.

There are no blood tests required.  Oregon State law does not allow the marriage of first cousins or nearer of kin.

The cost of the license is $50.00 which is payable by cash, check, credit/debit cards (payment by card subject to service fee) and money orders.

Online Marriage Application

The Polk County Clerk’s Office now request all couples to fill out the marriage license online before coming into our office. Through web access, couples can fill out the marriage application at the following link:

*We will be increasing the security of our web servers running secure HTTP (HTTPS) beginning February 6th, 2017.   Machines running older browsers or Operating Systems like Windows Vista or Windows XP may not be able to connect portions of our site requiring HTTPS as a result.

Once the marriage license is completed, it will be saved into a system that the Clerk’s Office will access at the time the couple comes in to pay the $50.00 license fee. Both applicants must appear in person at the time of purchase for the license to be issued.  A certified copy may also be purchased for an additional $4.00.

Office hours to obtain the license are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.  Payment may be made in the form of check, cash, credit/debit card, or money order. Please allow 15-20 minutes to obtain the license.
