Livestock - Lost/Found
Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) livestock brand inspectors will assist with the following lost, found, or stolen animals:
- Cattle
- Equidae (horses, mules, asses, donkeys, etc.)
ODA livestock inspectors have no authority to assist with the following lost or found animals:
- Sheep
- Goats
- Swine
- Emu or ostrich
- Bison
- Cervids
- Other domestic animals
Reporting
To report lost or stolen cattle or equidae, contact your local livestock inspector or call the ODA Livestock Identification Office. Lost or stolen livestock also should be reported to local law enforcement.
To report found cattle or equidae, contact your local livestock inspector or call the ODA Livestock Identification Office within five days. Found or estray cattle or equidae must be contained before a brand inspector will come out to investigate.

POLK COUNTY OREGON IS A LIVESTOCK CONTROL DISTRICT
Each city entity within Polk County will have their own rules and regulations pertaining to livestock, please reference your local government to obtain those rules and regulations.
ORS 607.045 - Livestock at large in livestock districts
(1) No person owning or having the custody, possession or control of an animal of a class of livestock shall permit the animal to run at large or to be herded, pastured or to go upon the land of another in a livestock district in which it is unlawful for such class of livestock to be permitted to run at large.
(2) This section is not intended to prohibit a person from driving livestock along a public road.
(3) Justice and circuit courts have concurrent jurisdiction of actions for the prosecution of violations of this section. [Amended by 1957 c.604 §16]
