Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT)

The Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) is a collaboration between Polk County Behavior Health, the Salem Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The team is comprised of a Salem police officer, a Polk County deputy and two Mobile Crisis Response Counselors.  They respond together in a caring and compassionate way to those in crisis or in need of emergency or non-emergency mental health services anywhere in Polk County.

These teams benefits from the rapid response abilities provided by the Sheriff’s Office and the Salem Police Department and the specialized skills of the clinicians. Deputy’s and Police officers who participate on this team receive specialized and focus on Crisis Intervention training to be able to begin helping those in crisis. The teams is available seven days per week.

Each law enforcement agency in Polk County, including the Oregon State Police have all entered into an agreement to help support this team.  Mental illnesses are an issue that affects  all of us. We all must work together to support our fellow  community members. 

Services Include:

• In-person crisis intervention

• Information and referral to community treatment providers

• Evaluation of the need for a mental health hold to transport an individual in crisis to a local hospital for further evaluation

• Short term transitional treatment and case management

• Referral to addictions treatment
 

When to call for help:

If you or someone you know exhibits any of the following:

• Thoughts of suicide, serious depression or other mental health concerns

• Feelings like wanting to hurt yourself or others

• Increased mental health symptoms making it difficult to attend to work, school or home

• Exposure to a traumatic event and having difficulty coping

• Disorganization making it difficult to seek shelter, food or attend to basic needs
