Polk County Oregon Official Website

On September 11, 2013, Sgt. Tyrone Jenkins, of the Polk County Sheriff's Office, was presented with the Professional Rescue Hero award at the 9th annual American Red Cross Willamette Chapter Real Heroes breakfast held in Salem.  A total of 17 heroes were presented with various honors during the event.

On August 29, 2012, at about 7:50 p.m., while on patrol, Sgt. Jenkins overheard a medical call of an unconscious male laying on the sidewalk in the city of Dallas.  Sergeant Jenkins was a couple of blocks away and arrived finding Dave Manley (42) of Dallas unconscious and not breathing.  Sgt. Jenkins immediately began giving lifesaving chest compressions and continued to do so until Dallas medics arrived.  The heroic actions and training of Sgt. Jenkins has allowed Mr. Manley to continue with his life in this community.

This award signifies the importance for people, law enforcement or not, to receive CPR training.  While this incident happened in the city of Dallas, it does not matter who is the first to arrive and render aid, it is the actions and training of those individuals who help provide life saving measures.
