Polk County is centrally located in the Pacific Northwest in the beautiful Willamette Valley. Nearly two-thirds of Polk County is forest. The gorgeous Oregon coast is only about 40 minutes to the west. The Cascade Range, with incredible snow skiing, is about an hour to the east. If you are looking for an occasional getaway for some metropolitan fun, Portland is just over an hour north.
Dallas, the county seat, is located 15 miles west of Salem, Oregon’s Capital city. In 2010, the population of Polk County was 79,122. The major industries of Polk County are agriculture, forest products, manufacturing and education. Western Oregon University, located in Monmouth, is a major employer. We have the second largest area devoted to viticulture in Oregon. Polk County was named for President James Polk, the 11th president of the United States.
