House Bill 2093
Effective date is January 1, 2014
Section 34 amending ORS 432.124
With the passing of House Bill 2093, we are notifying you of the following change in statute which reads, "A document recording a death filed in conjunction with owning or having claim or interest in land may not include medical information related to the cause death."
Based on the new legislation, our office will not accept for recording a death certificate if:
- Cause of death is listed
- Cause of death is redacted, removed, or altered
If the death occurred in Oregon, please check with Oregon Vital Records at (971)673-1178 and order a "short form" death certificate. Oregon short form death certificates do not contain medical information and, if unaltered, will be accepted for recording.
If the death occurred outside of Oregon, we recommend contacting that state's registrar of vital records and ask for any available certificate that does not contain medical information.
