2023 Chip Seal Project
During the month of July, Polk County Public Works will be completing Chip Seal projects in the South County and West Salem areas. Crews will be applying a chip seal and fog seal to the County roads listed below. More information on the chip seal process can be found here. There will be delays intermittently during this time period. Work hours will generally be between 7:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. All work is dependent on weather.
At this time we plan to complete pre-sweeping July 6. There are candlestick cones lining the streets in residential areas to indicate no parking. Once those are moved to the backside of the sidewalk, it means the sweeper has already come thru the area and you can resume parking on the street until the chip seal project starts.
The Chip Seal project will be completed July 10 - July 29, 2023. A more detailed schedule will be updated on the Polk County Website at www.co.polk.or.us/pw when a more accurate timeline is determined.
What You Can Expect during CHIP SEAL:
Drivers - During treatment, roads will be reduced to one lane of traffic. Drivers should expect some delays, but roads can be driven on a few minutes after chip sealing. All lanes will be open to reduced-speed traffic at the end of each work day. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE ON FRESH OIL. To avoid getting oil on your car, drive and stop slowly, and avoid turning your wheel while in a stopped position.
Pedestrians/Bicycles - Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will not be permitted in the area temporarily for the duration of the project due to safety concerns.
Residents - Street parking will not be allowed for the duration of the project. As the operation passes your property, there will be a window of time in which you cannot exit your driveway. This will not last more than 20 minutes. We will provide advanced notice of when project will occur to minimize impact to residents.
We realize these pavement preservation projects may create some inconvenience for residents, pedestrians, motorists and businesses. The County thanks you for your patience and cooperation as we work to preserve our roadways.
