Enhanced Enforcement Aims to reduce dangerous driving and crashed with Distracted Driving, Speed, and Safety Belt Enforcement

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office used federally funded overtime to put extra deputies on patrol in an enforcement campaign to bring attention to distracted driving, speeding, and seat belt usage. The goal was to reduce the risk of traffic crashes and injuries resulting from crashes. The campaign ran from August 2 through 8, 2020.

This enhanced enforcement was made possible through grant funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by Oregon Impact.
Four deputies were able to participate in this enforcement event. 26 contacts were made for speeding, 1 contact for driving while suspended, 1 contact for an equipment violation, 1 contact for distracted driving, and 2 contacts for other violations. One arrest was also made.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring the safety of all individuals who live in and travel through Polk County. Some of the most important safety measures individuals can take is to simply drive distraction free, slow down, and wear a safety belt.
