Commissioner Lyle Mordhorst

Commissioner Lyle Mordhorst

Commissioner Lyle Mordhorst was appointed to the Polk County Board of Commissioners January 2019 and he has a long history of community service and involvement through city committees, activities, events and schools. Lyle is currently working with ODOT to enhance our critical intersections to create safer commutes to work and improve our economy. He believes in providing our Public Safety officials with the tools they need to be effective and to keep our communities and highways safe.

After working several jobs, Lyle started a career in 1983 with Les Schwab Tires in Ontario, Oregon. With the promotions in his career, he lived in four different communities and his final promotion brought him to West Salem in 1998, as the manager of the new location. He has enjoyed being a part of this community for the last 26 years. Lyle retired from Les Schwab in January 2019 after 35 years.

Lyle believes that being raised in a small community helped him understand the importance of being involved. He believes that nothing happens without people willing to give their time, share their knowledge and their finances. He believes in providing opportunities for the youth,  such as summer programs like Little League, Soccer, Volleyball, band camps, 4-H & FFA, community events and in our schools.

“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow." Lyle believes that we do not need good schools, but that we need great schools and that we need to provide them with the opportunities that encourage and prepares them to succeed in life to become contributing citizens in our communities.

Commissioner Mordhorst can be reached at the Board of Commissioners Office at (503)623-8173, or by email at mordhorst.lyle@co.polk.or.us.
