Barking Dogs
The Cities of Dallas, Falls City, Salem, Independence and Monmouth respond to barking dog complaints within their city limits. Please visit their websites or contact them directly for further code enforcement information.

State law prohibits an owner or keeper of a dog from allowing the dog to be a public nuisance (ORS 609.095) by disturbing others with frequent and prolonged barking.
***This law is applied only in those instances where the dog's barking has reached unreasonable proportions and less formal means to resolve the problem have been tried and have failed to produce results. ***
You are encouraged to attempt the following options when it is reasonable and safe to do so before calling the Sheriff regarding Barking Dogs:
- Contact the involved party or property manager for resolution (i.e. send a letter, exchange phone numbers, text).
- Involve Community Mediation Services – a free service to the community for Noise, Property, Boundary, Trespass, Animals, Nuisance and more:
