Loss of Patrols Having an Impact

Since March 29 of this year through August 1, the Polk County Sheriff's Office has been reduced to only one 10-hour patrol shift a day, seven days a week.

Polk County Sheriff Bob Wolfe continues to express concern regarding the ability of his agency to handle calls and provide back up to local agencies due to loss of staff and budget reductions.

Sheriff to Make Additional Staff Reductions

On May 20, 2014, the passage of a Jail Levy by the citizen of Columbia County to maintain operation of their county jail had a negative impact on Polk County.  Sheriff Bob Wolfe stated, "We budgeted money from Columbia County renting jail beds to keep from laying off additional employees at Polk County, now I must make additional reductions to the patrol division."

Sheriff Staffing Loss Continues

Polk County Sheriff Bob Wolfe announced the loss of another patrol deputy from his already stretched resources.  Deputy Casey Gibson was temporarily hired last year to help out with budget reductions has accepted a position with the Monmouth Police Department starting May 1, 2014.

Sheriff Makes Additional Reductions

Polk County Sheriff Bob Wolfe announced additional reductions in patrol hours from 20 hours a day to 10 hours a day due to budget and staffing reductions. "My overtime budget is less than 6% for the remainder of this budget cycle which ends in June, and I have received notification from another deputy who has accepted a conditional job offer, making this the fourth deputy to leave in the last two months," stated Sheriff Bob Wolfe. 

Deputy Resigns After 22 Years With the Polk County Sheriff's Office

Polk County Sheriff's Office continues to see staffing reductions through resignations as lay-offs are pending this coming July. On February 28, Deputy Rick Bojorquez, a 22 year veteran of the Polk County Sheriff's Office, announced his resignation, effective March 11, 2014. Deputy Bojorquez started in August of 1991 as a corrections deputy and became a patrol deputy in December of 1993.

Sheriff's Offices Begins Staff Cut-Backs

Effective March 1, 2014, the Sheriff's Office will have new shifts with fewer employees.  Sheriff Bob Wolfe stated, "Due to the loss of the Public Safety Levy in November and pending budget reductions this July, several employees are leaving for other law enforcement agencies prior to scheduled reductions in July." Deputy David Mills has accepted a job with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office starting in March, and Sergeant Dustin Newman has accepted a job with the Baker City Police Department.  "During the campaign to pass the Public Safety Levy last fall, I was very upfront about the probability employees would start seeking employment at other agencies without any stabilized funding," stated Sheriff Bob Wolfe.
