Private Forestland Closure Information

Many private forestland owners keep their land open for public recreation during the year, but close it during fire season to mitigate risk – click here for a list of those closures

Please help us reduce wildfires by recreating responsibly and obeying all state fire regulations and landowner closures.  Please remember to check with the private forestland owners before you go, we might not have the most up to date information and you don't want to get stuck behind a locked gate.

Burn Info

Burn Info

All burning is subject to the requirement of your local jurisdiction. Each day, DEQ analyzes air quality and weather data to determine if ventilation is sufficient to allow open burning in the Willamette Valley, and notifies the State Fire Marshall. The Fire Marshall forwards this information to all fire districts in the valley.

Immediately call 911 to report threatening fires.

Burning Information is Updated Every Morning – call (503) 838-2020

Always call the Fire District’s burning information line before you burn. Open burning violations can result in penalties of up to $10,000 per day. Fires must be attended at all times until completely burned out or extinguished.

Contact DEQ to report smoke complaints at (888)-997-7888. D.E.Q. has the authority under state law to prohibit open burning anywhere in the state on a day to day basis.

Know your Evacuation Zone:

  • You may have to evacuate quickly due to a wildfire. Learn your evacuation routes, practice with household, pets and identify where you will go.
  • Follow the instructions from local authorities. They will provide the latest recommendations based on the threat to your community and appropriate safety measures.

Be Aware of Smoke Levels

When smoke levels are high, keep windows closed and use air circulation features on home and vehicle heating/cooling units.  Do not burn anything that decreases air quality such as candles, fireplaces or gas stoves.

  • Wildfire smoke can have negative health impacts on eyes, throat and lungs; worsening respiratory symptoms can occur in people with underlying lung disease like asthma and pulmonary inflammation.
  • Check Oregon DEQ Air Quality for Information.
