Sheriff's Office Will Save $20k Annually

The Polk County Sheriff's Office expects to save more than $20,000 annually by running 10 patrol cars on propane autogas.  The fleet conversion began in March 2013 and recently completed.  The Sheriff's Office converted seven Ford Crown Victoria's, two Chevy Tahoe's, and one Ford F-350 pickup with the Prins VSI bi-fuel autogas system through the Alliance AutoGas program.  Auto Additions of Salem performed the vehicle conversions, while Blue Star Gas furnished the autogas fuel station and delivers year-round fuel supply.

County Adopts New Livestock Ordinance

Polk County Commissioners adopted a new livestock ordinance to address the issue of "Livestock at Large."  Sheriff Bob Wolfe stated, "Late last year members of the Polk County Livestock Association, along with members of the Polk County Farm Bureau, worked with my office to address changing the charge of livestock at large from a misdemeanor to a violation."  It only makes sense to provide for a process that allows for failure to comply with the livestock district compliance requirements to be handled as a violation instead of a misdemeanor.
