BALLSTON SCHOOL - 1855
(Lawn Arbor School)
Constructed 1/2 mile southwest of Ballston with lumber from Ellias Buell's mill on Mill Creek; bricks from the local area, and square nails. Pulled by Oxen on log rollers to present site - 1874. Used as only school until 1886. Stood alone until narrow gauge railroad and station came in 1878. Ballston platted in 1880, named after Issac Ball. School donated to Polk County in 1962 by J.J. Sechrist.
