Bats and Rabies

All warm blooded mammals, including man, are susceptible to Rabies infection. Rabies is almost always contracted by exposure to a rabid animal. The exposure is usually through a bite, but saliva contact with broken skin is also a possible route. Bats are the primary reservoir for rabies in Oregon. Bats that come in contact with pets and people may place them at risk of exposure. Contact your physician to seek medical attention for rabies exposure.
