What is quarantine?

If you were around someone who has COVID-19, you must stay home and  monitor yourself to see if you get any symptoms of COVID-19. This is called ‘quarantine’

  • Stay at home as much as you can. Stay in your own room and away from other people in your home as much as possible. Wear a mask and stay at least 6 feet away from anyone who lives with you if you have to be in the same room. Use a separate bathroom, if you can.
  • Increase airflow in shared spaces like the kitchen or bathroom by opening windows.
  • If you need help, have just one person who is healthy provide care.
  • Do not go into group settings. You may exercise outside alone. If you are a healthcare worker, please consult with occupational health at your facility.
  • Check your temperature each morning and evening and write down the temperature using the chart at the end of this letter. Check your temperature with a digital thermometer the same way every day, at about the same time.
  • Monitor yourself for cough, trouble breathing, fever, sore throat, headache, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea or new loss of taste or smell.
  • If you need to leave your house (to go to the doctor) wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer if unable to wash your hands. Clean ‘high touch’ surfaces in your house a lot (doorknobs, counter tops, phones, toilets etc).
  • Avoid contact with pets and other animals. If you can, have someone who lives in your house care for your animals. If you must care for your pet, wash your hands before and after you are with your pets and wear a facemask.
