On July 18, 2014 at approximately 4:10 PM, Sergeant Randy Whittaker was tragically killed in a single motor vehicle crash on Hwy 22 in West Salem.

Polk County Sheriff Bob Wolfe continues to express concern regarding the ability of his agency to handle calls and provide back up to local agencies due to loss of staff and budget reductions.
