Why should I license

Why should I license my dog?

• It’s the law. Under ORS 609.100, all dogs within the State of Oregon are required to be licensed with the city or county in which they reside.

• Failure to license your dog can result in a citation and fine. ($265.00 per cite) and increases the price to license by $50.00.

Amateur Radio Emergency Services (A.R.E.S.)

 

 

A.R.E.S. is Part of the field Organization of the American Radio Relay League (AARL) which is required by the FCC to provide a trained pool of radio operators in the amateur services to serve as voluntary non-commercial communicators, particularly with respect to providing emergency communications.  The purpose of the Polk County A.R.E.S. Unit is to provide communications support when normal Channels become unreliable or overcrowded.

Earthquake Early Warnings.

Starting March 11, 2021, ShakeAlert®-powered earthquake early warning alerts will be available for delivery directly to wireless devices in Oregon.

In May 2021, Washington state will follow suit and complete the ShakeAlert public alerting rollout across the entire West Coast. California enabled ShakeAlert-powered alerts in October 2019. 

As massive slabs of Earth squish into and grind past each other off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, many people may wonder when they will feel ensuing earthquakes.

Sandbagging 101

***Sandbags and sand are available for Polk County residents at the Polk County Public Works Yard (820 SW Ash).  At times there may be prefilled bags, but come expecting to fill the bags yourself and while there are a couple shovels, in a high usage time you may need to bring your own shovel.***
