What is Reading for All?

Reading for All is an initiative that seeks to promote community literacy by identifying and aligning resources in Marion, Polk and Yamhill Counties. RFA mobilizes and engages our communities to foster literacy as part of our efforts to support children, youth and families. Outreach efforts are designed to include individuals, families, organizations, schools, faith communities, businesses and agencies.

Reading for All seeks to:

  • Increase the regions' awareness of, and commitment to, literacy.
  • Encourage adults and parents to read to children.
  • Align community resources to strengthen the opportunities for more children to receive books and have adults read to them.

Community Book Nook Project

Reading for All is partnering with local businesses and organizations to give them an opportunity to be involved with our literacy efforts to support daily reading and family literacy. The Community Book Nook project provides, at no cost, a business or agency with a small bookcase, a box of books to be displayed on the bookcase, and a variety of posters and materials. Reading for All asks that the "Book Nook" be placed in an open area, such as a waiting room or lobby, or any location where families gather. Children and families are encouraged to read while they wait and also pick out a book to take home for free. This project involves the community and reaches out to kids & families.

If your organization is interested in learning more about this project or having a Book Nook at your location, please contact Michelle Bornfleth by email or at (503) 623-9664, ext. 2457.

Local Action Teams

Reading for All Local Action Teams are comprised of local volunteers passionate about promoting literacy. Teams plan and facilitate literacy efforts and are encouraged to make it their own by tailoring activities to meet the needs in their community. If you are interested in joining a Local Action Team, or starting one in your area, please contact Michelle Bornfleth by email or at (503) 623-9664, ext. 2457.
