Benefits of Working at Polk County

Benefits are an important part of our employees’ compensation package and we strive to offer a variety of competitive and affordable benefits options. Eligible family members are covered under most Polk County benefits programs. An overview of our benefits program is listed below, however, benefits vary depending on union affiliation and employment status.

Paid Holidays:

Most employees receive nine paid holidays each year plus 4 hours on Christmas Eve. Most employees also earn 4 Personal Leave Days per fiscal year (5 days for non-represented employees.) 

Paid Vacations:

Most full time employees receive 12 days of paid vacation per year, with additional time earned for increased years of service with Polk County. 

Paid Sick Leave:

Most full time employees earn 8 hours of sick leave each month. 

Health Insurance:

Polk County offers a choice of Kaiser Permanente or Regence BlueCross/Blue Shield of Oregon health plans. Rates and plan benefits vary according to union affiliation. Supplemental insurance for a variety of health needs is also available through Aflac. 

Retirement:

Polk County provides retirement benefits through the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). The entire cost of the plan is borne by Polk County, including the 6% employee pick-up. 

Employee Assistance Program:

Cascade Centers is available to assist with a variety of counseling, financial, and legal issues along with wellness information and programs. Cascade also offers a listening library on a wide variety of topics. 

Wellness Program:

Healthy Quests is the name of our Wellness Program. Employees are encouraged to participate in activities which encourage health and wellness in their work-life balance through the process of making better choices. Healthy Quests issues bimonthly newsletters, orchestrates fitness activities, health related challenges, and a Lunch and Learn speaker series. 

Flexible Spending Account:

This benefit allows employees to pay for insurance premiums, dependent care and unreimbursed medical and dental expenses with pre-tax dollars through Aflac. 

Deferred Compensation:

Employees may opt to participate in a 457 deferred compensation plan available through either the Oregon Savings Growth Plan or Nationwide. 

Life/Disability Insurance:

All regular status employees are covered by a basic county-paid life insurance policy. Employees may purchase additional coverage at competitive rates. Long term disability plans are also available at group rates. Short term disability is available through Aflac. 

Long Term Care Insurance:

Designed to help county employees meet financial and personal needs in the case of a long term care situation.
