Polk County Legal Counsel works directly for the Board of Commissioners and provides legal advice and support on all civil matters, including land use and code enforcement.

County Counsel is responsible for the drafting and review of ordinances, resolutions and orders of the Board of County Commissioners, drafting and review of legal documents to which the County is a party, coordination with bond counsel, representing the County in public records litigation, assisting the tax collector with activities related to foreclosure and collections, maintaining County Ordinances, and providing general legal counsel concerning County business to the Board of County Commissioners.

County Counsel provides legal advice to the Board of Commissioners and to County departments as well as prepares for and tries cases in enforcement of County Ordinances relating to animal control, community development code, land use and solid waste infractions.
